Bus conductor dies in Soesdyke crash

A fatal accident early yesterday morning at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD) has claimed the life of a Timehri bus conductor and left four others injured.

Dead is Quami Dalton, a 24-year-old conductor of Icehouse Road, Timehri, EBD. Dalton was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre after he was taken there following the accident which occurred at 2 am.

Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) EBD Sub-Division Commander, Kurleigh Simon confirmed to Stabroek News that the fatal accident took place at the Soesdyke Junction and it involved motor car HB 1029, driven and owned by Shaquille Henry, 25, of Mora Street, Linden.

According to Simon, four passengers and the driver occupied the car and were proceeding south along the eastern side of the Soesdyke Public Road, EBD, when it came into contact with the median which caused Henry to lose control of the car and drive off the road. The four passengers were Shania Badbburgh, 18, of Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Melissa Lewis, 20, of Providence, EBD, Rosanna Bobb-Semple, 27, of Kara Kara, Linden and the now deceased, Dalton.

Simon said that the vehicle toppled over and hit a Guyana Power and Light post and it was extensively damaged from the impact. He noted that the occupants were removed from the vehicle and taken to the Diamond Hospital, by public-spirited persons. At the Diamond Hospital, Dalton was announced dead.

The other occupants were transferred from Diamond to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The Commander said that the four others suffered head and body injuries and their conditions are currently listed as stable. The police said that investigations are currently ongoing.
