Archers in Zoom meeting with world federation

With the aim of improving and developing the scope of the discipline, the Board of Archery Guyana conducted a successful two-hour Zoom Meeting with the World Archery Americas (WAA) on Saturday August 8th.

This was disclosed in an official release from the local entity. According to the correspondence, several issues were discussed at the forum which was chaired by WAA Secretary-General Sergio Font. Among the topics discussed were affiliation to World Archery, the Olympic Solidarity, World Archery Congress and the World Archery Americas General Assembly.

The release disclosed, “Discussions were had as to the WAA Constitution and some possible positions which are up for election at the 2020 Assembly scheduled for later this year.

Regional Games in the Americas were discussed and it was noted that Guyana is eligible to participate in the South American Masters and Youth Games. Coach/Trainers were also discussed and in this regard, Phil Graves gave a brief presentation and is working on an online Module moving forward in the Covid-19 Pandemic new normal. Online classes were discussed in this regard for Coach Trainer refresher courses.”

According to the release, a developmental course for judges was also on the agenda, after it was initially slated to be staged during the first quarter of the ongoing year. Similarly, aspects and details surrounding the implementation of Para-Archery was also deliberated on, following a presentation from MJ Roberts. The correspondence further disclosed that an online session will also be hosted tomorrow on the subject of Para-Archery.

The release added. “A Judge Development Course was also discussed by Mr. Phil Graves. Archery Guyana was in discussion with him and WAA to host a Judge’s Seminar in the first quarter of this year but due to the unforeseen circumstances this had to be postponed. Olympic Solidarity was also discussed with participants which was a useful lesson. Another important area presented was on Para-Archery. MJ Rogers from the USA presented on this and in fact this weekend will be hosting an online Seminar which is expected to be attended by four Archery Guyana members to continue to develop in this area.”
