Nandu leads Kaieteur CC to victory

National under-17 batsman, Matthew Nandu registered his third consecutive half-century to lead Kaieteur Cricket Club to a two-wicket victory over Canadian Eagles on Saturday.

Playing in the Brampton Etobicoke District Cricket League (BEDCL) Premier Division, Eagles won the toss,  opted to bat and were bundled out for 164 in 44 overs.

In reply, Kaieteur held their nerve to reach 166 for eight in 42 overs.

Nandu, who scored a blistering 146 and 84 in his last two matches piloted the chase at the top of the order with a 73-ball 51, decorated with five boundaries.

The son of former West Indies Under-19 cricketer Arjune Nandu, gave his side a healthy start with fellow opener, Mahendra Jaipersaud who fell after making 19 from 27 balls. The top order got starts but failed to carry on with Kevin Singh (19), his older brother Marcus (18) and Abhidav Dikshit (15) reaching double figures.

Extras accounted for 26 while Faisal Khan was the principal wicket-taker with three for 12. Kulwinder Dhillon and Ajay Cherooll supported with two wickets each for 25 and 26 runs respectively.

Earlier, Eagles were stifled by Ashtan Deosammy who ripped through the batting line up to end with four for 31. He was aided by Theron Ramlal who bagged three for 37 while Matthew Nandu and Jonathan Singh grabbed one wicket each.  Dhillon top scored with 29 from 23 balls which featured five fours. Khan (26), Malkeet Singh (25) and Khurram Anis (20) got going but could not convert their good starts.
