A fine half century from Marcus Nandu followed up by a four-wicket haul from Raqib Shamsundeen spurred Kaieteur into the playoffs of the Brampton-Etobicoke & District Cricket League Premier Division in Canada.
Kaieteur registered their seventh win of the season after beating Canadian Eagles yesterday by 176 runs at Laurel Creek Park. Kaieteur won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 237 for nine in 43 overs before dismissing Eagles for 61 in 24.2 overs.
Kaieteur’s batting centered around Nandu, son of former Guyana First-Class player, Arjune Nandu, who made an unbeaten 68 from 111 balls. Nandu came in at five with his team in a spot of bother after losing their top three batsmen for single figures.
However, he managed to forge a half-century stand with Theron Ramlal who made 36 from 44 balls, laced with three boundaries.
Daniel Argumen was the only other batsman with a significant score of 26 while extras accounted for 37.
Karanvir Singh was the pick of the bowlers, taking three for 34 while support came from Ranjit Dhami (2-27).
The chase was stifled by Shamsundeen who bagged four for 16 while Ramlal returned to claim three for 16 to end with an exceptional all-round performance. Guyana under-17 all-rounder, Matthew Nandu chipped in with two for eight from his four overs.
Only Gurpreet Gill (24) and Mani Bhardwsaj (21) reached double figures for Eagles.
Kaieteur topped the group stage with 74 points while Redhawks ended in second place. The playoffs will now be played next week Saturday.
