Nandu, Ramlal double-century stand in vain

Guyana under-17 batsman, Matthew Nandu, continued his purple patch on Saturday as he stroked 167 during a double century opening stand with Theron Ramlal.

Playing in the Brampton Etobicoke and District Cricket League Premier Division, Kaieteur Cricket Club suffered a 68-run loss to Redhawks despite the efforts of Nandu and Ramlal.

Redhawks won the toss and opted to bat. They were kept to 376 all out in 49.2 overs but it was enough to secure victory as Kaieteur CC were limited to 308 for five when their overs expired. This is the second loss in the tournament for Kaieteur CC and both came at the hands of the Redhawks.

The chase at Batsman Park-North, was all to watch as Kaieteur openers, Nandu and Ramlal shared an impressive 229-run partnership. Nandu batted fluently with his huge ton coming from just 121 balls. He struck 14 fours and three sixes for his third century in six innings. He also scored two fifties and sits  as the leading run getter in the tournament so far with 562 runs at an average of 112.4.

On the other side of the partnership, Ramlal was conservative, making 76 from 154 balls. His innings featured two boundaries.

With the partnership going deep into the 37th over, a lot was required of the rest of the order but only Marcus Nandu reached double figures with 22 not out. Kulwinder Singh was the pick of the bowlers, claiming two for 45 while Dilroop Singh and Sandeep Thind took a wicket each.

Earlier, Mandeep Singh anchored Redhawks’ innings with a top score of 86. His innings came from 98 balls and featured seven sixes along with two fours.

He was supported by three other batsmen with half centuries. Dilroop Singh blasted a 39-ball 69 that was highlighted by seven sixes and four fours  in an 87-run second-wicket stand with  Thind (36).

Kulwinder Singh stroked 61 from 79 balls while Ankaj Arora’s 21-ball 60 pushed Redhawks to a respectable total. His innings was decorated with seven sixes and two fours.

Matthew Nandu was the principal wicket-taker with three for 70 while Ramlal bagged two for 48.
