Child stabbed in Atlantic Gardens attack discharged from hospital

The five-year-old child who suffered stab wounds after being attacked by her mother’s friend at Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara, is now recovering at home.

A relative of the child confirmed to Stabroek News that she was discharged from the hospital.

The stabbing occurred at an Atlantic Gardens home, where the child and mother were visiting.

The perpetrator subsequently attempted suicide and later succumbed while in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Then Commander of Region 4 (c) Royston Andries-Junor had told this newspaper that the perpetrator, who was 45, was in her home with her friend’s five-year-old daughter, while the mother was outside of the home.

The girl began screaming and both she and the woman were found with wounds afterward.

Andries-Junor also stated that the police were called and the child and the woman were picked up and taken to the hospital, where they were both admitted.

It was stated that three days prior to the incident, the woman had called the child’s mother and requested that she stay with her at her Atlantic Gardens home as she complained of feeling sick, and her fears that people were watching her and wanted to harm her.
