Forty-two new cases of COVID-19 recorded

Guyana’s COVID-19 cases continue to mount. 

Yesterday the country recorded 47 new cases of the novel coronavirus which increased the total number of positive cases here to 1,140. This was observed on the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard which showed that of the new cases recorded, 34 are from Region Nine, 10 from Region Four, two in Region Seven and one case from Region Three.

The number of active cases stands at 482, with 380 in approved home isolation and another 102 within institutional isolation facilities. However, 82 more persons have recovered from the virus which increased the total number of recoveries to 616. Additionally 311 persons were tested between Wednesday and Thursday as no testing data was displayed on the Wednesday dashboard. Further, the total number of persons tested for the virus so far in the country now stands at 7,654.

One new death as a result of the virus was recorded yesterday, which increased the total number of deaths to 32, while the number of persons within the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit rose to 10. There are 119 persons currently in institutional quarantine facilities.

A breakdown of the total confirmed cases by gender on the dashboard showed that 563 males and 577 females have so far tested positive for the virus.
