Cop injured in motorbike accident

A 23-year-old police officer is currently nursing severe head injuries after a motorcar allegedly struck him off his motorcycle on Friday night.

The injured man has been identified as Steffon Beckles, a police officer stationed at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU).

The police yesterday confirmed the accident which occurred around 1.15 pm on Friday on Vlissengen Road and Norton Street, Georgetown.

The driver of motor car, HB 9969, who has been identified as a 68-year-old resident of Albouystown is currently in police custody assisting with investigation.

Reports are that Beckles was riding motorcycle, CG 4137 along the northern side of Norton Street, approaching Vlissengen Road while motorcar, HB 9969 was proceeding south along the western side of Vlissengen Road, Georgetown

As the driver approached the intersection at Norton Street, he allegedly failed to stop and drove into the path of Beckle’s motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, Beckles fell onto the roadway. He sustained severe injuries.

He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he remained a patient up to last night. His condition is listed as serious.
