Trio held over La Grange hit and run released on station bail

Three persons held in connection with the recent death of mason Imran Abdul, who died as a result of a hit and run along the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara, have been released on station bail.

Police Commander of Region Three Errol Watts told Stabroek News that the suspects were released after being held for three days without charge.

Previously, Stabroek News reported that Abdul, 25, of Lot 24 Unity Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara was killed in a fatal accident on September 1.

The car suspected to be involved in the fatal hit and run being stripped.

Police had said the accident occurred at about 9.40 pm on that day. Abdul sustained injuries to his head and back. The police later found the vehicle believed to be involved in the hit and run being stripped at a Belle West bodywork shop.

A statement released stated that the driver of the car, a 32-year-old man from Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, along with two other persons had been arrested. The men were being detained at the La Grange Police Station.

Watts said the driver of the vehicle was released on $75,000 bail, while the owner of a mechanic shop and a staff were released on $50,000 each.

Investigations are still ongoing.
