Chetram Persaud stroked an unbeaten century and picked up two wickets to walk away with the Man-of-the-Match award for NY Centurions.

Chetram Persaud, who turns out for Essequibo in the local Jaguars Franchise League, scored a solid century for New York Centurions Cricket Club in the New York National Cricket League over the weekend.

Persaud’s ton was most welcome as his side registered a 10-run win over New York Warriors.

The century earned Persaud the Man-of- the-Match award.

Centurions scored 201 for four in their 30-over quota and limited Warriors to 191 for nine when their overs ran out at the Baisley Ground.

Persaud, coming in at number three, was at the crease by the second over after Centurions lost Mark Gomes for six. He  went on to stroke an unbeaten 100. His century came from 81 balls and was decorated by 12 boundaries.

The left-hander helped carry the score to 50 before his side lost Avinash Etwaroo for 20 but shared in an 80-run, third-wicket partnership with  former Guyana Youth player, Renwick Batson. Batson made 37 from 40 balls and clubbed three sixes. Persaud then lost his brother, Marlon, for seven but shared an unbroken partnership of 40 with Rameez Mohamed, who ended on 15 not out.

Notably in the Centurions’ side was former Guyana under-15 captain, Zackary Jodah but he did not get a chance to bat.

The wickets were shared among Syed Sreejon (1-15), Mohammed Nazu (1-19), Rahi Ahmed (1-39) and Foysal Mohammed (1-68).

Warriors’ chase was off to a smooth start as Nazu stroked three sixes and six fours on his way to 61 from 54 balls. He added 53 for the first wicket with Shawn Ahmed (16) and 48 for the second wicket with Shahbazz Najim (28) before being bowled by Marlon Persaud (2-31).

Ramal Rambajan rocked the middle order by dismissing Sreejon (13), Rahat Khan (11) and skipper, Mohammed Hussain (11) to end with figures of four for 35.

Chetram Persaud returned with his off-spin and finished with two for 28.
