Pomona labourer succumbs to gunshot injury

Reeaz Khan, one of the two labourers who were shot after person/s unknown reportedly opened fire on them last Tuesday night at Aurora Village, Essequibo Coast succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor confirmed that twenty-year-old Khan, a resident of Pomona Housing Scheme, Essequibo succumbed at the Suddie Hospital around 00.10hrs yesterday.

Khan was shot in his face while his friend, Cordell Grimes sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the shooting which occurred  around 7.30pm last Tuesday.

The police in a statement had said that the friends went to a hotel and bar in Aurora Village, Essequibo Coast, with motor car PRR 1219 to pay a debt.

While they were re-entering their car, the duo heard two gunshots. Grimes, 25, of Adventure, Essequibo Coast who was said to be the driver, quickly started the vehicle and drove off in attempt to get to safety, when two additional shots were heard.

The report added that Grimes looked over at Khan who was in the passenger seat and saw that he had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his face while he (Grimes) had suffered one to his left arm.

Grimes immediately drove to the Suddie Public Hospital, where they were both examined by a doctor on duty and admitted.

Contacted yesterday, Police Comman-der of Region Two Crystal Robinson said that there has been no development in the investigation as yet.

She said investigators are still awaiting for Grimes to be provide them with a statement about what transpired.

The police recovered one .32 spent shell. A check of the vehicle also revealed what appeared to be two bullet holes in the door.
