In an effort to continue his personal coaching development, Junior Hercules, head-coach of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Men’s Senior Team will feature in a Virtual Training Seminar, which will be hosted by USA Basketball.

This sentiment was shared during an exclusive interview yesterday with Stabroek Sport. According to the Hercules, who is also the GABF National 3×3 Coordinator, “This camp targets children ages 18 and under. This virtual camp will give all aspiring youth national players under the ages of 18 and opportunity to learn to interact virtually while being exposed to the fundamentals of basketball.”

Questioned how important are the courses to the development of emerging and developmental coaches, Hercules said: “These exposures are intended to add value to Guyana developmental plan to help expose coaches and aspiring coaches.”

He declared that the course is beneficial as it can provide a template for local coaches in their attempts to replicate similar programmes.

Hercules added, “Guyana and national coaches by extension can use the format and example covered to replicate future camps of this nature.”

The training seminar is divided into two sections which are foundational and advanced. The three-day foundational camp is geared towards individuals 12 years and younger, with a core emphasis on establishing core fundamentals. The dates are October 13th, 20th and 27th, with each session running from 7:00pm-8:30pm.

On the other hand, the advanced session is aligned for individuals’ age from 13-18 competing at a high level and will also be staged over the course of three nights. The dates are October 15th, 22nd and 29th.

The programmes will feature five experienced and qualified instructors. They are Don Showalter, (USA Basketball coach development director & 10-time gold medalist USA coach), Mike Jones, (DeMatha Catholic High School boys basketball head coach & USA Junior National Team coach), Monique Boykins (Lower Merion High School girls basketball head coach), Sharman White (Pace Academy boys basketball head coach & USA Junior National Team coach) and Cristian Barber (Pro Skills Basketball skills trainer).

Admission to the camp requires a process fee of $90US for which the participants will receive a certificate following its conclusion.
