Corentyne gang of four remanded after charges of robbery under arms

A Corentyne gang of four has been remanded to prison after being slapped with four counts of robbery-under- arms charges for attacks on two Corentyne families.

The accused: Roopchand Thomas called Lil Shawn, 19, unemployed, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice; Joshua Beharry, 20, unemployed, of Hampshire Village, Corentyne, Berbice; Shawn Thompson, 24, unemployed, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice; and Kelvin Munsie called ‘Snookey’, 20, unemployed, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice; were arraigned on charges for robberies committed on Asif Ghani and Nankumar  Namoo on October 13 and Soomdat Chattergoon and Mahendra Ramdayal on October 4 and October 16.

The accused men were yesterday arraigned in the Albion Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh and were not required to plead to the charges which stated they robbed Ghani and Namoo. The men are scheduled to return to court on November 10 on these charges.

After being slapped with those charges, the men were taken to the Whim Magistrate’s Court where they were further charged for committing robbery under arms on Chattergoon, a security guard of Miss Phoebe, Corentyne, Berbice; and Ramdayal, a cane allocator, also of Miss Phoebe, Corentyne, Berbice.

At their appearance before Magistrate Alex Moore in the Whim Magistrate’s Court, the men were not required to plead and were all remanded to prison.  Their next scheduled court appearance on these charges is on November 11.
