Merundoi Inc Director Margaret Lawrence, who recently won GTT’s ‘Pinktober TikTok challenge,’ has donated her $20,000 cash prize to a cancer patient for treatment.

According to GTT, Lawrence said her winning entry was a last-minute production put together by her prayer group to assist a cancer patient who needs radiation and therapy. “Winning this challenge has shown us that God answers our prayers,” she was quoted as saying in a release issued by GTT on Friday.

GTT’s annual Pinktober initiative, which seeks to raise awareness about cancer, was largely organised virtually this year due to the current COVID- 19 pandemic. The company has encouraged donations through the mmg+ app by using code 07693 to assist cancer patients across Guyana.

The challenge that Lawrence won required participants to create a TikTok video using the GTT Pinktober Song, share it on social media, tag the company, and get likes and shares, thereby raising awareness about the cause.

According to the release, Lawrence commended the company for incorporating the TikTok platform as a way to spreading cancer awareness and care in Guyana. “I think it was an excellent idea because it brought together youths and the senior folks to work on a project together for a social cause. I must give recognition to my team Loris Joshua Luke and Phillip Johnson who worked with me in putting together the video,” she added.

Lawrence also commended GTT for its continuous efforts in spreading cancer awareness and care each year, and she encouraged other private sector agencies to get onboard and tackle other social diseases. “Pick a niche and let us work together for a good cause,” she said.

While the company brought down the curtains on its month of activities, it said it is encouraging persons to continue making donations via mmg+. “All proceeds will help in the fight against cancer and assist in supporting programmes inclusive of mental health and physical care,” GTT’s Pinktober Coordinator, Diana Gittens, said.
