Travel restrictions placed on St Cuthbert’s Mission after COVID outbreak

Following the confirmation of multiple cases of COVID-19 in St Cuthbert’s Mission, travel restrictions were imposed on the community to help curb the spread of the disease.

The travel restrictions are a joint effort between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the St Cuthbert’s Mission Village Council.

According to an official from the Health Ministry, who asked not to be named, the community recorded 91 COVID-19 cases within two weeks. Presently, he added, the situation is under control as no one is showing any COVID-19 related symptoms. Hampers were distributed to the residents of the community on Friday.

According to the official, while no one is allowed to leave the community, residents can travel to the community if it is urgent but will have to be tested upon arrival. However, they will not be allowed to leave the community shortly after arriving as they would need to isolate for a number of days before leaving again.

Since the community started recording cases, the official revealed, a health team visited several times. The official said that a doctor and nurse are presently in the community conducting screening and swabbing where necessary.
