Pomeroon labourer drowns after alcohol binge

The police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man, who drowned after he allegedly jumped into the Pomeroon River while he was drunk on Friday evening.

According to a Guyana Police Force release, the deceased has been identified as Danny Hendricks, a labourer of St Monica, Upper Pomeroon River.

The release said that around 10am on Friday, Hendricks left his home and went to consume alcohol with friends at a nearby shop. He returned to the landing that afternoon around 6pm, highly intoxicated. The release added that while on a boat ride home, he suddenly jumped overboard into the river and disappeared.

A search was subsequently organized and Hendricks’ body was later fished out of the Pomeroon River. Police said that an examined uncovered no marks of violence on the man’s body and that foul play is not suspected.

Nevertheless, an autopsy is slated to be done at the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary.
