Woman injured by falling tree at Success still in hospital

The woman who was injured by a falling tree at Success squatting area on October 23rd, remains hospitalized at the George-town Public Hospital (GPH) in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Communications Officer for GPH, Chelauna Providence when contacted said while the woman’s condition has improved moderately, she still requires monitoring.

It was reported that Sunita Persaud, 45, of Lot 28 Crown Dam, Industry, East Coast Demerara, along with seven other women were injured after a tree fell on a shed they were under.

As a result of the accident, Persaud suffered a fractured skull, injuries to her spine, ribs and a broken leg.

On the day of the accident the women were preparing to begin cooking when they were hurt.

 A police report said the accident occurred around 2.10 pm in the canefields of the Success backlands, where several persons were sitting in a makeshift structure on a dam.

Persaud’s relatives remain hopeful that her condition will continue to improve.
