The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has commissioned an ‘Ad Hoc’ committee in Kwakwani as the first step to resuscitate football in the community.

According to a press release from the GFF, the Kwakwani Ad Hoc Football Committee, comprises Stephon Profitt, Dion Ross, Dean Gordon, Harlan Bethune, Winslow McCurdy, Hubert Williams, Dereck Daniels, Anne Gordon, Royston Hetemyer, Carl Pitt and Jimmy McLean.

The committee, which identified at a Town Hall meeting hosted at the Workers Club recently, is scheduled to select a chairperson and secretary shortly.

Accompanying Forde at the meeting were Upper Demerara Football Association President, Terrence Mitchell, GFF Youth Development Officer, Brian Joseph, GFF Director of Coaching, Wilson Toledo and GFF Referees Technical Instructor/Assessor Abdullah Hamid.

According to the release, several concerns were raised by residents in attendance at the forum. The issues included the lack of organizational and developmental structure, the necessity for lights at the Community Centre, training equipment and coaching assistance for veteran tactician McLean, who requested the meeting with Forde.

Forde, during brief remarks, pledged the federation’s support and overall commitment to resuscitating football within the community.

He said that the respective goals of the community can only be achieved with the requisite support of the members.

The proposals put forward by the GFF contingent include Coaches and Referees Training, organizing of competitions within the jurisdiction and the start of a player registration drive.
