Woman succumbs after collision in Cuyuni River

A woman from San Martin, Venezuela died on Saturday following a collision in the Cuyuni River opposite Linette Shop, Eteringbang Landing in Region Seven.

The victim has been identified by the police as Maria Williams, 74.

According to a statement from the police yesterday, the now deceased woman was in a canoe being paddled by Victoria Williams when there was a collision at 4 pm with a boat powered by a 75 Hp Yamaha engine. The police said that the boat was being piloted by a man who gave his name as Sankar and who resides in San Martin.

Following the collision, the two occupants of the canoe fell into the water and Maria Williams suffered chop wounds from the propeller of the engine.

The woman was  pulled from the river and rushed to the San Martin Landing for medical attention in Venezuela, where she succumbed to her injuries at about 8 pm.

No arrest has yet been made, the police say.
