Regions Seven and Ten remain areas of interest with the continuing rise of COVID-19 cases in those areas.

Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony made this disclosure during a recent COVID-19 update where he stated that the main areas of focus are Bartica in Region Seven and Linden in Region Ten. He noted that in Bartica, there were previously over 70 active cases.  The number has dropped.

According to the Regional Health Emergency Committee, the region now has a total of 46 active cases with a total of 525 cases being recorded since the initial outbreak in the region. The committee in a press release through the Regional Democratic Council stated that it has been advocating for persons to adjust their behaviour and adhere to the emergency guidelines in place however. Unfortunately however, persons continue to flout these measures.

The committee reminded residents that the 10:30pm to 4:00am curfew is still in effect and that persons are still required to wear face masks when in public. The release further noted that the testing and surveillance facility at the Bartica Community Centre complex remains open from Monday to Friday for those desirous of being tested.

Meanwhile during a COVID-19 update, Dr Anthony noted that in Linden there are a number of communities that health authorities have been tracking as Linden is now the other area that is of concern to the health officials. “So there’s a number of communities there that we have been tracking they have had an increase in cases in those communities so these are the two main areas of concern right now” he said.

With that he noted that it does not mean that they have turned down the level of vigilance in other parts of the country as health teams continue to monitor all regions to ascertain the situation at any given time in the regions. “We will continue to do so [monitoring] but as of now these two areas are the places that we have seen more cases so far” he added.

On Thursday, 21 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Region Ten which was a large majority of the total number of new cases that were recorded that day. Forty-five cases were recorded in the region between December 13 and yesterday, showing a significant spike in cases for the region.
