Cop shot at Buxton party

A 21-year-old police constable is currently hospitalised after he was reportedly shot and robbed while attending a party early yesterday morning in Buxton, East Coast Demerara.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said James Gordon, who is attached to the Port Kaituma Police Station, sustained a gunshot wound to his back during the attack, which unfolded around 3am at Middle Walk, Buxton.

The suspect is known to Gordon. He is still to be arrested.

The GPF, in a press release yesterday, said that Gordon left his Buxton home around 11pm on Friday for a party in the village.

While there, the police said, he was approached by a group of men who are all members of the “Team Diamond Crew.”

The police added that the suspect allegedly attacked Gordon and dealt him several cuffs and kicks about his body.

During the attack, Gordon was also relieved of a gold chain he was wearing, which is worth $300,000 and his cellular phone.

Gordon alleged that he then ran through Middle Walk, Buxton, after which all the men pulled out firearms and shot in his direction.

One of the bullets struck him to his back and Gordon lost consciousness. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he was treated and admitted as a patient.

According to the police, the suspect and Gordon had a misunderstanding last year after it was alleged that Gordon had broken off a rear view mirror of a car. The matter was thought to have been settled.
