The Guyana Police Force (GPF) overcame a one-goal deficit to defeat winless Buxton United 3-1 when the KFC Elite League continued last night at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Centre, Providence.

It was the third consecutive win for the lawmen, who fell behind in the first half to the Buxtonians in the 41st minute as Teshawn Gordon found the back of the net.

However, three unanswered goals by the officers in the second stanza secured the come-from-behind win and relegated the Buxtonians to their third consecutive loss.

Anthony Belfield equalised in the 75th minute, lashing his effort into the back of the net after an initial penalty kick attempt by Nicholas MacArthur was parried by the goalkeeper into his onrushing path.

Adrian Aaron then handed Police the lead five minutes later, slotting across the body of the goalkeeper into the left corner from inside the penalty area after latching onto a left-sided cross.

The come-from-behind win was then sealed in the 86th minute, as Junior Redmon scored, blasting his effort past the advancing goalkeeper into the back of the net from inside the penalty area during a one-on-one situation after racing onto a through pass.

The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with a doubleheader. The winner of the tournament will receive $2,000,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $1,200,000, $800,000, and $500,000, respectively.
