Pensioner dies in fire at Jackson Creek

A fire of unknown origin during the wee hours of yesterday destroyed a wooden house in Jackson Creek, Upper Corentyne resulting in the death of the owner.

Dead is Roy Rajbanse, 61, unemployed, of Jackson Creek, Upper Corentyne. 

Stabroek News,  was told that the now-deceased, who drank heavily, resided in a wooden 10 by 12 one-flat wooden structure with his son, a fisherman, who is presently away at sea.

 The house was surrounded by bush and has no electricity.  According to a relative, they were informed of the blaze just around 6.30 am yesterday after some persons who were passing on the main access road noticed the fire and alerted the police and fire department. 

After arriving on the scene, the fire service quickly extinguished the blaze and then discovered the remains of Rajbanse. 

A friend of the deceased, Raymond Jordan, 42, a farmer of Molsen Creek, told relatives that he and Rajbanse were imbibing in front of the deceased’s house on an old gas stove around 6 pm on Saturday. After both became heavily intoxicated Rajbanse went inside his dwelling while Jordan proceeded home. 

The police and fire service have both launched investigations.
