Minister of Health (MoH) Dr Frank Anthony yesterday announced that several students due to return to public school dormitories have tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking to the Department of Public Information (DPI) yesterday, Anthony did not disclose how many students tested positive while noting that testing will go on for some time and that he would not be releasing that information until all testing is done.

The students who tested positive are now in isolation.

Anthony said that they are asymptomatic and therefore they must be placed in isolation for a period so they can be monitored for symptoms. Anthony also said that it is expected that quite a few students will test positive as they turn out and get tested.

The students who are in isolation are being provided with study supplies.

Testing began last Saturday, according MoH spokesperson Daniel Singh.

Anthony said the MoH was collaborating with the Ministry of Education as it recognized the need to ensure that the school environment will be safe.

Schools were reopened yesterday for students to begin the Easter term. It is still unclear how many students turned out for their physical classrooms and virtual ones.

Previously established COVID-19 protocols are being adhered to in order to ensure that children are kept safe. These protocols include students being required to wear masks and to keep a safe distance from each other. There are also stringent sanitization protocols enforced, according to the Ministry of Education.
