After staging three successful Time-Trial events last month, the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) is planning a series of rides that could start as early as next weekend.

According to Racing Secretary of the federation, Malcolm Sonaram, the group rides will be held on Saturdays and Sundays and will be geared towards assisting the cyclists with base and endurance training.

He also stated that the granting of permission for the rides will be subjected to the approval of the National COVID-19 Task Force and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

“The rides should be starting next weekend as we are now sending out correspondences and will await approvals,” Sonaram said yesterday.

He added that as was the case with the three Time-Trials, the rides will be staged in the city, Linden and Berbice.

“We are currently engaging the sponsorship from various businesses and persons in order to promote these rides with the branding of support vehicles during the session. These rides will be held in Berbice, Linden and Georgetown in collaboration with the GCF.”

Sonoram further disclosed that all safety measures outlined by the Task Force will be adhered to.

“Needless to say, the GCF will be checking temperatures of all cyclists at the rides and providing masks as well.”
