Region Four woman, 53, is country’s latest COVID fatality

The Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday disclosed that another person who was infected with COVID-19 has died.

The latest fatality is a 53-year-old woman from Region Four, who died while receiving care at a medical facility. Her passing has raised the death toll to 176.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 dashboard showed that 53 new COVID-19 cases were recorded. The new cases reflected on the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard have increased Guyana’s total positive COVID-19 infections to 7,581. The cases were the result of 270 more persons being tested for the respiratory disease.

The regional distribution of the new confirmed cases is as follows: one new case each was recorded in regions Five and Six, two in Region Two, three in Region Ten, Four in Region Three, 36 in Region Four, six in Region Seven, and none in Regions One, Eight and Nine.

There are now 830 active cases in the country, 56 of whom are in institutional isolation while the other 774 are in home isolation. Five persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

Currently 19 persons remain patients in institutional quarantine and 29 more have recovered from the virus, increasing the total number of recovered cases to 6,570.
