The Amateur Athletic Association’s (AAG) first Developmental Meet for the year is expected to get cracking this weekend at the Leonora Facility.

The meet, will be especially beneficial for athletes preparing for this year’s CARIFTA Games which will now take place in July.

The meet will also see athletes looking to participate internationally, such as the Olympic Games in Tokyo, showing their mettle.

Among the events on show will be the 60m, 150m, 300m, 600m and 2000m races.

President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Aubrey Hutson told Stabroek Sport yesterday that he had written the Minister of Health and was awaiting the Minister’s approval and was optimistic of a favourable response.

The meet is billed for Saturday and Sunday and will serve as a guide for the coaches who will be looking keenly at the CARIFTA Games hopefuls.

Among some of the international meets set to take place this year are the IAAF World Indoor Championships in China in March, the South American Seniors and the World Athletics Relays in Argentina and Poland in May respectively, the Pan Am Championships in Chile in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in July.
