Sophia youth gets bail on robbery charge

A young welder was yesterday released on $50,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to committing a violent robbery.

Seon Benjamin, also known as ‘Black and Shine,’ 18, of Lot 407 ‘D’ Field, Sophia, appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

The charge states that on December 17th, 2020, while in the vicinity of ‘B’ Field, Sophia he robbed Fitzroy Cummings of cash and articles valued at $815,000.

He was released on $50,000 bail and the matter was adjourned until March 9th.

Additionally, he was ordered to report to the Turkeyen Police Station on the 15th of every month until the completion of his trial. He was also ordered to stay off of the road between 6pm and 6am.
