COVID-19 infections spike in Region 7

Thirty new COVID-19 cases were recorded yesterday with the majority being reported in Region Seven.

The Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard showed that the 30 new cases increased Guyana’s total positive confirmed cases to 8,262. These cases came after 102 more persons were tested. The total number of persons tested in Guyana to date is now 55,298.

According to the regional distribution of the country’s COVID-19 cases, 22 new cases were recorded in Region Seven, showing another spike in that region. Two new cases each were recorded in regions Three and Six, while three cases were recorded in Region Four with one new case in Region Nine.

The updated figures show that there are now 580 active cases, 42 of which are in institutional isolation while the other 538 are in home isolation. Eight persons are currently patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile 22 persons remain in institutional quarantine as the country recorded 87 more recoveries. This now increases the total number of recovered cases in Guyana to 7,486.
