A fire on Tuesday at Number 76 Village, Corentyne, has left a family of four homeless.

Michael Singh, 27, a labourer and Kimberly Barnette, 22, resided at the location in a one-bedroom wooden house with their two children, two and four years old.

Stabroek News was told that Barnette was home with the two children cooking when around 11.30 am her elder child told her that there was a fire in the house.

The woman quickly grabbed her two children and ran out of the house.

The fire service was not able to save anything and Singh estimated their losses to be over $1M as their house was fully furnished at the time of the fire.

An investigation has been launched.
