Cyclists back on track with 30-mile race

Riders get ready, competitive cycling returns to the 592 with the Forbes Burnham Memorial road race tomorrow.

These and other details were confirmed by Racing Secretary of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), Malcolm Sonaram yesterday. 

According to Sonaram, the race which will be organized by the Burnham Foundation and the Flying Stars Cycling Club, was given the green light by the COVID-19 Task Force and the Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony on Wednesday.

The first competitive cycling event for the 2021 season is scheduled to get off to a fast start from 07:30hrs on CARIFESTA Avenue. The peloton will head east to Belfield and return to the point of origin for the finish.

Tomorrow’s 30-mile race will cater for riders in the categories of Open, Juniors and Veterans.

Cycling standout, Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams won last year’s event which was a two-stage race.
