Cop charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting ex over breakup

Colin Whyte, the policeman who has been accused of shooting the mother of his two children in her neck after she broke up with him, was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with attempted murder. 

Whyte, 43, a Sergeant attached to the Blairmont Police Station, appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Blairmont Magistrate’s  Court, where the charge was read to him. 

He is accused of attempting to murder Shonetta James, a Special Constable, on February 12th.

Whyte was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison until his next court date, March, 2nd. 

On February 12th Whyte was placed under close arrest after he allegedly shot James in her neck. 

This newspaper was told that the Sergeant reportedly went to the woman’s house in Onderneeming, West Coast Berbice, where an argument ensued and he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the woman.

Police had said he took her to Fort Wellington Hospital and left her there.

The woman was subsequently transferred to New Amsterdam Hospital, where she was admitted for some time.
