After being hospitalized with the Corona-virus disease (COVID-19) for close to two months, a US-based Guyanese retiree succumbed in Atlanta yesterday.

Dead is Patrick Allan Reid, 75.

One of Reid’s cousins, Suzette Fortune last evening told Stabroek News that he was tested positive for COVID-19 in early January.

From since then, Fortune said he was hospitalized until his passing around 1pm yesterday.

She noted that while Reid showed some signs of recovery, he experienced serious breathing problems.

“He kinda recovered but you know COVID takes over your lungs so he was having breathing difficulties,” Fortune said.

It is unclear how Reid might have contracted COVID-19.

However, Fortune suspects that it might have been from performing his daily errands.

“I guess he contracted it maybe just going out to do his business, pay his bills, go to the supermarket or something,” she said.
