Bath goldsmith dies, wife critical after crash at Berbice Bridge entrance

A Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice man is now dead while his wife is critical after their vehicle hit a culvert and then toppled into a nearby trench at the Berbice Bridge Entrance, Region Six yesterday afternoon.

Vijay Jaigobin also known as ‘Suresh’, 33, and wife Sherry Alica Jaigobin, 30, both of Lot 2 C Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, were proceeding in motor car PYY 6586, when the man reportedly lost control and slammed into a concrete culvert along the Berbice Bridge entrance road. As a result of this, the car then toppled and ended up into a nearby trench causing the duo to suffer injuries about their bodies.

The two were removed from the vehicle by public-spirited persons and were rushed to the New Amster-dam Public Hospital where the man was pronounced dead on arrival.

The woman has since been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state. Her condition is listed as critical.

Stabroek News was told that the couple operate a jewellery store at Basil Mall in Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.

An investigation has been launched.
