Sherry, 30, of Lot 2 C Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice along with her husband Vijay, 33, of the same address, were said to be travelling in their vehicle PYY 6586 when the man reportedly lost control and slammed into a concrete culvert in the vicinity of the Berbice Bridge Entrance road.

He succumbed shortly after the accident.

As a result of the crash, their car toppled and ended up into a nearby trench, causing the duo to suffer injuries about their bodies.

The two were removed from the vehicle by public-spirited persons and were rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead on arrival.

The woman was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious state and she remained there until her demise.

Stabroek News was told that the couple operated a jewellery store at Basil Mall in Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.

The couple were said to be returning from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) when the accident took place.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on the remains of Sherry tomorrow.

Police said Vijay died as a result of drowning.
