Home lost in Coldingen fire

A fire at Coldingen, determined to be the result of arson, destroyed a home yesterday, according to the Guyana Fire Service (GFS).

A press release from the GFS explained that a call received at 11.07 am yesterday indicated that there was a fire at Lot 1 Coldingen Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.

“Water tender #103 from the Melanie Fire Station and water tender #96 from the Campbellville Fire Station were dispatched to the location,” it noted before adding that it was determined that the fire was maliciously set by a person/persons unknown.

It noted that one person had lost their home due to the fire. While acting Fire Chief Kalamadeen Edoo confirmed last evening that the cause of the fire has been determined to be arson, Commander of Division 4C Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine explained that this has not been officially communicated to the Guyana Police Force.

“We are investigating,” he said, before adding that a search for suspects will move forward once it is officially established that arson was the cause.
