Bel Air Rubis East Coast defeated hosts, Demerara Cricket Club by 19 runs in an under-17 encounter earlier this week.

Playing at the Queenstown-based DCC, the visitors won the toss and batted, posting 129 all out from 30 overs.

They then restricted the hosts to 110 for eight in their reply.

East Coast crawled to 26 for three after 10 overs before Chaitram Balgobin and Ajay Gainda led the resistance with a 34-run partnership, making 29 and nine respectively.

When the partnership was broken, Indeerjeet Nanan snatched three quick wickets to reduce the visitors to 81 for eight.

With DCC in control, Hemraj Hariprashad struck two sixes and six fours on his way to 41 not out. Romeo Deonarain bagged three for 21 while Nanan returned three for 34.

In the chase, DCC lost wickets at regular intervals as only Jonathan Van Lange (30) and Wavell Allen (27) got decent starts.

Hariprashad returned to take two wickets for nine runs and was supported by Neeraj Bani and Balgobin who also took two wickets each.
