COVID-19 claims four more lives

The novel coronavirus has claimed four more lives in Guyana.

This was disclosed by the Ministry of Health yesterday in press statements where it informed that the country’s death toll now stand at 225. The new fatalities were identified as a 60-year-old man from Region Four, a 61-year-old man from Region Seven, a 63-year-old woman from Region Four, and a 78-year-old woman from Region Four. They all died while receiving care at medical facilities.

With the 11 deaths that were recorded so far for the week, March 2021, follows closely behind October as the second deadliest month. Forty-four deaths had been recorded for the month of October and 30 deaths have so far been recorded from March 1 to 25.

Meanwhile, 78 new cases of the virus were recorded increasing the country’s total number of positive confirmed cases to 9,898. These cases came after 822 more persons were tested, bringing the total number of persons tested to 85,308. Of the new cases, more than half (45) were reported in Region Four.

There are now 942 active cases in the country, 49 of whom are in institutional isolation while another 893 are in home isolation. Twelve persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit and 89 more persons have recovered from the virus increasing the country’s total recovered cases to 8,721.
