Soldier hospitalised after ranks beaten, wounded at Wismar

A soldier remains hospitalised at the Linden Hospital Complex after he and another Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank were allegedly beaten and wounded by civilians on Saturday night.

Police Commander of Region Ten Hugh Winter yesterday confirmed that the two ranks were attacked by civilians around 10pm on Saturday at Wismar, Linden. He said that the two ranks were rushed to the hospital, where one of them was treated and discharged while the other, who was reportedly stabbed, was admitted. The man’s condition was reported to be serious but stable, according to the commander.

Winter told Stabroek News that the police had not made any arrests but that the investigation was ongoing. He said that the police have collected statements but they are still awaiting one from the rank who is still hospitalised and for him to identify the perpetrators.
