Goed Fortuin woman injured after ATV topples

A woman is now hospitalised at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) after she fell from a speeding ATV in an accident along the Pouderoyen Public Road, West Bank Demerara on Monday night.

The injured woman, Reshma Baldeo, of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, was the pillion rider on the ATV, which carried registration number CK 4481.

The accident occurred around 9.30pm.

They Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a statement on the accident, said Daniel Singh, the driver of the ATV who later escaped from the hospital, was proceeding north along the western side of the Pouderoyen Public Road at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle.

As a result of the speeding, the ATV toppled several times before colliding with a pedestrian crossing sign and later ending up on the western parapet.

It was reported that Baldeo was picked up in an unconscious state by Singh and public-spirited citizens and transported to the WDRH, where she was admitted.

According to the statement, the driver subsequently fled from the hospital.

Checks to locate him were made at his address and place of work but were unsuccessful.
