Body found in Kariko creek ID’ed as 97-year-old woman

A decomposed body that was found recently floating in a creek at Kariko Village, North West District, Region One, has been identified as a 97-year-old woman.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the body of Idna Matthews was in an advanced state of decomposition when it was found floating in the creek last Thursday afternoon.

The police said that the decomposed body was found around 4.30 pm by the village Toshao Lynbert Henry.

A formal report of the woman being missing was made to the police at around 9 pm the same day.

It was reported by the police that the body was later identified by one of Matthews’ relatives.

The woman’s relatives were advised to bury the body with a view of having an exhumation done for the post-mortem examination because of the decomposed state of the body and the terrain, the police said.
