Supermarket guard held after shot fired

A guard attached to a private security firm was taken into police custody yesterday after he “‘accidentally” discharged a round while on duty at an East Coast Demerara (ECD) Chinese Supermarket.

The incident which occurred around 9am was caught on surveillance footage which monitors Moon Supermarket located on La Bonne Intention (LBI), ECD Public Road.

In the short video which was circulated on social media site, Facebook and seen by Stabroek News, the guard was walking just outside the entrance of the supermarket with the firearm in his hand, when it suddenly went off and fell to the ground.
