At approximately 7.14 am yesterday, a fault developed at the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) Garden of Eden Power Plant which caused an overload of four engines at the Kingston Power Plant, triggering a shutdown of the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS).
A statement from GPL yesterday said that restoration efforts began at approximately 7:38 am and incremental power restoration commenced. All areas were repowered at approximately 9.22 am.
Immediately following full service restoration, GPL said that its technical team commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the root cause of the fault at the Garden of Eden Power Plant to inform any corrective action(s).
