Kaneville robbery suspect hospitalised after being injured during capture

A robbery at Kaneville has landed a suspect in the hospital after he was captured by members of the public.

The Guyana Police Force said three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, robbed Akely Freeman at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, at 12.30 am last Friday.

In a statement, the Force said the men robbed Freeman of a black BMX bicycle, valued $12,000, and $240 in cash.

The report said the victim was approached by the three suspects, two of whom began searching him, while a third one held him at gunpoint.

During the process of being searched, Freeman resisted and as a result he was cut on his hand and subsequently relieved of the mentioned items.

The statement added that one of the suspects was later captured by public-spirited citizen and he suffered injuries during his apprehension. He was arrested and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he received medical treatment under police guard.
