Over 67,000 inoculated against COVID – Anthony

Over 67,000 persons have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony made this disclosure during his COVID-19 update yesterday where he said that the inoculation programme  has seen a “tremendous” response.

“As of yesterday (Tuesday) we have completed 67,524 immunizations which is really good, so we are increasing every day”,  the health minister said while adding that in all regions more and more persons are coming forward to get their vaccines.

Previously, Anthony had said that there was some level of hesitancy in Region Ten as it related to persons taking the vaccines and he had called on persons of influence in the region to encourage citizens there to take their shots. Yesterday, he noted that the situation has improved to some extent in the region even as he said that it can get better.

“I think we can get better and what we are trying to do is to work with different community groups in dispelling whatever myths they have and to try to get people to come out to the immunization centres”, Anthony said. He said that they have moved away from some of the fixed sites that had been set up in the region and have gone into the communities.

Additionally, as it relates to riverain areas, he mentioned that they are planning to execute the vaccination programme in those areas as assessments are currently underway.

“We have already commenced an assessment in the Berbice River area, to look at what we need, how much population and so forth and then by next week they are planning to go back and do the immunization”, he stated.
