Linden bar owner, DJ arrested after fracas with cops

A Linden bar owner and his Disc Jockey (DJ) were yesterday arrested after allegedly getting into an altercation with police when asked to shut down their music.

According to a police report, at around 7:00 yesterday morning, the police visited the Tropical Reflections Bar at Five Corner, MacKenzie, Linden, and instructed the DJ to shut off the music set. The report said that the DJ refused to turn off the music and was subsequently arrested and taken to the Mackenzie Police Station.

Shortly after, the owner of the bar, Hilton Lyle, visited the station to enquire about the DJ and allegedly behaved in a disorderly manner which led to him being asked to leave the station. The report went on to say that while leaving the station Lyle allegedly assaulted one of the police ranks, causing other ranks present to come to his aid.

As a consequence, Lyle was arrested and both he and the DJ were later released on self-bail. They were also warned to return to the Mackenzie Police Station at 9 am today.

The matter is already engaging the Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility as investigations are ongoing.
