Forty-one COVID deaths so far for month,160 new cases reported

One hundred and sixty new COVID-19 cases were on Wednesday recorded even as an additional fatality increased the country’s total number of deaths from the pandemic to 274.

The Health Ministry yesterday said that a 52-year-old woman from Region Six died while receiving care at its medical facility.

This new death now increases the total number so far for April to 41 which follows closely behind October 2020, which had reported 44 deaths as a result of COVID-19.

According to the Ministry’s dashboard some 160 more cases were recorded which increased the total number in the country to 12,132. These came after some 3,002 more persons were tested for the virus thus increasing the total number of persons tested to date to 111,885.

The new cases were recorded in nine of Guyana’s ten administrative regions; one new case in Region One, eight in Region Two, 20 in Region Three, 94 in Region Four, 17 in Region Six and two in Region Seven. Additionally some five cases were reported in Region Eight, four in Region Nine and nine in Region Ten. As a result there are now 1,404 active cases, 74 of whom are in institutional isolation while another 1,330 are in home isolation.

Some 12 persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit while some 145 more persons have recovered from the virus thus pushing the country’s total recoveries to 10,442.
