GCB moving to higher standards thanks to Foster

Dear Editor,

I am extremely pleased with the move by the newly elected Vice President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Hilbert Foster. Foster seems to be moving the GCB to the high standard he has set with the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) in which he has motivated businessmen, farmers, former national and international cricketers in his quest to improve the summer game. As soon as Hilbert was elected as President of the BCB he reached out to the diaspora for assistance. I, as former Secretary, responded immediately and contacted a few businessmen friends for their involvement, Dr. Tulsi Singh, his brother, Dr. Puran Singh, businessman Brian Ramphal responded pledging their support. This was followed by numerous businessmen not only in Guyana, but overseas as well. A new pharmacy is now offering to donate medical supplies for first aid kits for the three county Boards, an extremely good gesture. An Educational Trust Fund is to be established under the name GCB/Dave Narine Educational Trust Fund.

It is heartening to see current test player, Shimron Hetmeyer, is giving back to Guyana by sponsoring three cricket tournaments and Kevin Sinclair and Romario Shepherd have joined the call by former testate Clayton Lambert who has made a significant financial donation as well as Jerry Angus, Narsingh Deonarine, the Nagamootoo brothers – Mahendra and Vishal, Troy Halley, Kevin Darlington. The BCB is grateful to President Irfaan Ali, Minister of Sports Charles Ramson, Attorney-General Anil Nandlall, Justice Navindra Singh, and CWI President Rickey Skerritt, cricket Ombudsman Komal Ramkarran, Attorney Arun Gossai, and Peter Lewis of Associated Construction. Foster seems to be the driving force behind the setting of sub committees within the Cricket Development Committee which is geared to propel the growth of all level of Guyana Cricket. I sincerely hope that he will get the co-operation of the entire Board. More so, I hope he will move his ideas to a higher level to Cricket West Indies where he was recently elected as Vice President. Moreover, I trust that the regional board will listen carefully to his ideas and work towards improving the standard and fair play of West Indies cricket.

Sincerely,

Oscar Ramjeet

Former Secretary Berbice Cricket Board
