Three more COVID-19 deaths push total to 277

Three new COVID-19 deaths have put April 2021 on par with October 2020 as the deadliest month for the novel coronavirus in the country.

The Ministry of Health announced the new deaths in two press releases and identified the latest fatalities as a 42-year-old man from Region Four, a 70-year-old man from Region Five, and a 76-year-old man from Region Four. They all died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical facility. The latest deaths pushed Guyana’s death toll to 277.

With just a few days to the end of April, this month has already surpassed March’s death figure  and has now recorded the same amount of COVID-19 deaths as October 2020 which was the month with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths since the index case was reported.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health’s Dashboard showed that 102 new cases were recorded which increased Guyana’s total number to 12,234. These cases were detected after 977 more persons were tested, taking the total number to date to 112,862.

Of the new cases, Regions Three, Four and Six recorded 19, 55 and 10 cases respectively. There are now 1,390 active cases in the country, 66 of whom are in home isolation while another 1,324 are in approved home isolation. Twelve persons remain in the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.

Meanwhile, 113 more persons have recovered thus increasing Guyana’s total recovered cases to 10,555.
