Unable to collect deceased aunt’s NIS benefits

Dear Editor,

It is with pain that I pen this letter to you after reading the letter penned by another frustrated contributor. I should have penned this letter ages ago but had not the willpower to do. NIS is a headache and of recent it has become more burdensome to its contributors. My aunt died, she was a simple cleaner at a Government school. She died about two years ago without receiving her benefits which was legally hers.  NIS is now asking for a will and all sorts of irrelevant documents. The money to be collected is $85,000. My aunt left no will and to get this done a lawyer is required. Now Editor, tell me where will I get money to acquire a lawyer for that sum. In 2010 when my aunt died overseas it was smooth sailing – I never had a problem. The then manager worked to suit. All of my aunt’s benefits were paid to her. This is a simple process and it must be investigated by the authorities in power.  The representative of the deceased must, without such harassment and embarrassment, be able to collect their relative’s benefits in a smooth and timely manner. Go back to the ruling that was being done five years ago. And it is because of this new and tiring ruling pensioners monies are being paid back into the scheme. I thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,
